Samuel Kan

Physiotherapist | Osteopath | Rolfer

MPT BSc USA   DOMP Can   Rolfer RISI USA

Sam is the founder of Bodyworks Studio. Graduating with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University in California, USA, Sam worked in hospitals and private practices in both USA and Singapore before setting up his own practice in 1997 at Tanglin Shopping Centre. Sam studied with the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration (RISI) and became a certified Rolfer. Rolfing is built on myofascial release techniques which focus on the connective tissue in the body, also known as fascia. Working with fascia has opened up his mind to the capacity of the body's connective tissue and how its pervasiveness makes it such an important component we cannot overlook. His quest to deepen his knowledge led him to complete a Diplomate in Osteopathic Manipulative Theory & Practice from the Osteopathic College of Ontario, Canada, giving his patients more options over a wide range of conditions. Having honed his craft over a span of more than 20 years, Sam’s forward-thinking approach to diagnosis and treatment of physical dysfunction has led him to attend annual international osteopathy and physical therapy conferences and workshops in Germany, Canada and the UK. He is a registered member of Allied Health Professions Council, Singapore Physiotherapy Association, Rolf Institute of Structural Integration and the Ontario Federation of Osteopathic Professionals. If you’re looking for a practitioner with a wealth and depth of experience in manual therapy, let Sam manage your wellness and healthcare. From a basic consultation to diagnosing and treating ailments, make an appointment and see how Sam can help you today.

Nicole Lu

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy |

Dip Sports & Exercise Science

Ingrained with the exposure of playing sports whilst growing up, Nicole knew she wanted to be a tennis coach and undertook a Diploma in Sports & Exercise Science. However, after a back injury and a trip to the physiotherapist later, she was inspired to study physiotherapy in the University of Bradford (UK). She began her physiotherapy career in 2012 at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Whilst at her stint in SGH, she was given the opportunity to treat patients from both in- and out- patients in orthopaedics, medical and geriatrics disciplines, including coverage at the Autoimmune & Rheumatology Centre. She was part of the medical team for the Standard Chartered Marathon in 2014/15. Through patients’ recognition, she was awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service Award in Silver. Through the years, she has gained invaluable insights working at a private hospital, a private nursing home and being a locum physiotherapist in various clinics all across Singapore. During the pandemic, she explored teaching a geriatrics subject at Temasek Polytechnic as an adjunct lecturer. As part of her career milestone, she also gave an interview on The Straits Times: The Big Story on 5th January 2022 on tips for elderly persons on living well. Nicole also acknowledges the need for other rehabilitative tools to help her patients’ recovery and thus, had equipped herself with knowledge in DMA Clinical Pilates, OMT Dry Needling and being a Rock Tape practitioner. With Nicole’s calm demeanour and adaptability, you will find yourself in her good hands at Bodyworks Studio. Her interest lies in conditions of the spine and she strongly believes in the powerful combination of the touch of her hands and a curated exercise programme to help her patients achieve a desired functional level. Nicole enjoys watching criminal documentaries, runs and works out regularly and still plays tennis.

Meet_the_team - Timothy

Timothy Wong

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy

Timothy graduated with BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University. Having worked in one of the biggest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, he has seen a diverse group of patients with both acute and chronic conditions. Furthermore, the challenge of patients presenting with multi-morbidities does not make therapy an easy feat. Timothy continues to be an active member of ‘The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’ in the United Kingdom. He continuously updates his knowledge of latest treatments and evidence-based approaches so that he can carry over such knowledge to his practice. Timothy has taken special interest in understanding natural asymmetries of the body and how it produces the common conditions/pathologies that we experience. Using the diaphragm and pelvic mechanics from the Postural Restoration Institute (United States) to treat upper and lower body pathologies, exercises involving the diaphragm and pelvis can largely affect recovery from various conditions. With much consideration in the 22,000 breaths that humans take per day, breathwork with the right guidance and tweaks to exercises can largely impact recovery. Combining with the knowledge of myofascial work and manual therapy, a holistic treatment approach is usually taken to solve the root causes of injuries and conditions. Timothy’s interest in sports started at a young age, where he was competitive in soccer, basketball at the school level, before taking special interest in running while he was serving National Service in the army. Being a semi-competitive runner, Timothy trains and competes in races frequently, majoring in the 5k and 10k. Recovery and nutrition has been important to him to allow peak performance through his intense training. He has been through the common injuries that runners and athletes experience, therefore leading him to have a deeper understanding of the reasons behind many of these injuries. He has also delved into the biomechanics of running to improve his performance and reduce injury risks for himself and fellow athletes. Through his personal experience of the physical condition required in sports, Timothy has treated many sports athletes successfully and his patients are referred to him mainly by word of mouth. For many young active individuals seeking relief for pain and the need to optimise performance, Timothy’s proven track record will expedite their road to recovery.
